Hybrid Agile Approach to Global Software Development – The Case for Scrum-Fall

Abstract
Agile Scrum development method is the dominant software development approach among start-ups, Silicon Valley IT companies and many global software teams. Silicon Valley companies have moved away from waterfall software development approach to a verity of agile methods including Scrum, XP, and Kanban to name a few. Many large traditional companies are following their footsteps. The move to agile software development is slow, and challenging in large traditional companies, hence the need for agile transformation process. This study explores software development practices within a global team, in one large global company. One of the key findings from the research is that this global team uses the agile scrum method, but they do not follow the scrum process as speculated. Instead, they follow a hybrid Scrum-Fall approach. Keywords - Agile Scrum, Waterfall, Software Development, Global Teams.
