Paper Title
Theoretical Approach To Enhance Desktop Security Using Encryption Techniques
Abstract
Due to provision of more emphasis on online internet security, offline desktop security is unnoticed or
ignored. In this paper, we have introduced the concept of ‘known attacker’ where user is familiar with intruder and
intruder knows user-computer’s access password. User wants other people to access only public data stored in the
computer, not the private confidential data. Paper addresses this new threat and makes several contributions. First,
we have studied existing standards for desktop security and collected their limitations. Second, we have introduced
mechanisms like Encrypted Login, Automatic File Separation, File Encryption, File Directory Handling and
Antivirus Check to improve data security. Third, we have experimentally verified authenticity and security of the
enhanced mechanism. Finally, we propose encrypted and secured mechanism to enhance desktop security.
