Paper Title
Practical Recommendations to Solve Poor Password Habits using Blocklisted Structures and Heuristics Checks

Abstract
Abstract - When it comes to safeguarding online accounts, a password is considered the first line of defense. However, people create weak and short passwords and reuse the same password for multiple accounts. We have developed a chrome extension that helps users diversify their passwords. Users can create an account, add their passwords or structures, and get them analyzed using parameters such as hash or structural similarity, heuristic checks, and compared against blocklisted structures. Using different UI elements, the tool nudges users to change passwords for accounts compromised on the parameters mentioned above. We find from an experimental study that users are able to create unique and robust passwords based on password risk-related information given to them. We observe a reduction in the risk of password reuse when users have followed the tool's recommendations for creating diversified passwords. Keywords - Password Reuse, Password Structures, Blacklist, Heuristic Checks.
